Foreword

Autumn has always been my favourite season. I was therefore particularly excited to work on Issue Three and source a suitable illustration for the cover, which I did, I think, thanks to the folks over at the Smithsonian’s Open Access platform. Unintentionally, most of the pieces included here possess a sort of melancholic undertone which seems to fit well with the shorter days and colder nights which are soon to come. There is still much joy, however, to be found in the work featured here.

As for the magazine itself, I should like very much to build upon the success we have had so far with magCulture in getting the print edition out to wider audiences, and expanding into more stores in the U.K. and abroad. And of course, we have the Cheltenham Literature Festival arriving in October! I’ll be out and about with plenty of copies to offer the unsuspecting public. If you are in town, please do get in touch: it would be fantastic to meet some members of the community in person over a few cups of hot cider.

Otherwise, there is plenty of warmth included among these pages to carry us through to when we feel the chilly press of winter at our backs, a feeling not unlike that crawling spinal sensation you get when reaching the end of a dark street only to hear the clinking of a bottle as it rattles across the cobbles behind you.
